Plasma atrial natriuretic peptide is unstable under most storage conditions.

Because some articles hinted at problems with storing ANP, this study examined the effect of numerous techniques for storing and processing human ANP samples. Brief Communication Increased Capillary Hydraulic Conductivity Induced by Atrial Natriuretic Peptide

The small molecular weight peptide, atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), produces marked sodium and water excretion. The peptide, extracted from several species of vertebrate heart, also has been shown to increase glomerular filtration and reduce plasma volume. Several mechanisms have been proposed to account for the action of the peptide but remain undefined. In the present report, the ANP-induce...

Cardiac peptides differ in their response to exercise. Implications for patients with heart failure in clinical practice.

AIMS Cardiac peptides have diagnostic and prognostic value in heart failure. Their plasma concentrations, however, are sensitive to rapid changes in haemodynamics. As blood sampling under standard conditions is not feasible in clinical practice, it is important to know which peptides are most resistant to change. Therefore, the present study investigated the differences in response to exercise ...

Stability of plasma concentrations ofN and C terminal atrial natriuretic peptides

Background-Plasma concentrations of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) are increased in patients with ventricular dysfunction and could have a diagnostic role in heart failure. ANP may be unstable after collection, however, limiting any practical diagnostic role. Methods-Blood samples were obtained from 18 patients with various conditions. Aliquots were either processed optimally or kept as blood...

Evaluation of Serum Levels of N-terminal Pro Brain Natriuretic Peptide and Atrial Natriuretic Peptide in Neonates with Respiratory Distress

Background: Acute respiratory distress (ARD) is a critical respiratory failure due to lung injury of neonates leading to the clinical appearance of poor lung compliance. The aimed of the study was to evaluate the diagnostic values in differentiating respiratory from heart diseases with using of N-terminal pro brain natriuretic peptide (NT-pro BNP) and Atrial natriuretic peptide(ANP) in neonates...
